Warm sunshine ahead, remaining dry

Fire danger may increase over the next week as rain chances remain few and far between.

Happy Hump Day! The good times roll through the back half of the workweek as sunny skies continue their dominance over the Carolinas. The bright blue skies will remain a constant over the next several days, but you will notice temperatures on the rise as we head into the weekend. Expect highs to reach near 80° across the Piedmont and Foothills this Wednesday afternoon, eventually lifting into the mid-80s by Friday. Make no mistake – the days ahead will be significantly warmer than the mid-70s we were dealing with between Sunday and Tuesday, but low humidity levels will make our newfound heat much more tolerable.

The warmer trend will likely carry into next week as some medium-range models put the Queen City near 90° on Monday. With temperatures on the ascent while humidity levels and rain chances remain low, we’ll need to watch for increased fire danger as we round into the second half of September. Outside of a stray shower to the east as a coastal low develops over the next few days, opportunities for rain appear few and far between over the next seven days.
