City of Lenoir removing traffic signal in the downtown area

LENOIR, N.C. — Officials will begin the process of removing a traffic signal, next week, in downtown Lenoir.

Starting Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, the City of Lenoir will start the first phase of removing the traffic signal at the intersection of College Avenue and Mulberry Street. City staff will switch the traffic lights to flashing at 9:00 am.

After the change, drivers on College Avenue will have the right-of-way through the intersection. Drivers on Mulberry Street will have to stop at College Avenue to give way to through traffic along College Avenue.

The City recently finished a traffic study on the intersection. Based on the study, there is not enough traffic in the intersection to require a stop light.

The City is converting the intersection to a two-way stop. After 90 days, City staff will remove the traffic lights in the next few months. Drivers should be cautious in the intersection pay attention to other drivers.
