Watching for stray showers, summer’s last stand
Highs surge near 90Β° around the Metro by the end of the week.
Tuesday and Wednesday bring the highest rain chances the WCCB Charlotte viewing area has seen in over a week, but that’s not saying much. A coastal low continues to pummel eastern North Carolina this Tuesday morning; while most of the moisture remains well to our east, a few showers could find their way into the western half of the Carolinas over the next 36 hours. Most locations remain dry, however, and those fortunate enough to see rain won’t end up with much. Despite the increasing rain chances, most Piedmont and Foothills locations will see more sunshine and blue sky than anything else for this second day of the workweek. The best opportunities for rain arrive overnight Tuesday into Wednesday – again, not amounting to much – before more sunshine arrives in time for our Hump Day afternoon. Highs hang around the upper 70s and lower 80s over the next two days around the Metro.
With the return of abundant sunshine by the back half of the week comes a major warm-up. Highs surge near 90Β° in the Queen City as we roll into summer’s final Friday. Expect the warm sunshine to linger into the weekend before another cooldown arrives in time for fall, which begins this coming Monday.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) continues to monitor a cluster of thunderstorms well east of the Caribbean for tropical development, now giving this system an 80% chance of becoming a named storm over the next 48 hours. Most models turn this system out over the open Atlantic over the next week, but we’ll still want to watch the Atlantic Basin carefully over the next month. The next name on the 2025 Atlantic list is Gabrielle.
