2 arrested after ambulance struck by gunfire in Uptown Charlotte during patient transport

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two people were arrested after a Medic ambulance was struck by gunfire in Uptown early Thursday morning.

The gunfire struck the MEDIC truck at the intersection of Trade Street and Davidson Street around 2:30 a.m.

No one was injured and the patient was taken to the hospital for treatment for an unrelated illness, according to MEDIC.

Officers identified a suspect vehicle involved in the incident and conducted a traffic stop. Detevin Butts, 30, and Jaquarius Mingo, 27, were arrested and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. A third individual was cited for carrying a concealed weapon and was released, police said.

Butts and Mingo are charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, conspiracy, possession of a firearm by a felon, and discharging a firearm into occupied property.

An investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
