The Edge: Restaurant adds “quiet time” surcharge to bill

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Lots of businesses add surcharges these days, but one has people outraged on social media. A customer posted that they checked their bill after dinner at a restaurant and noticed a 20 percent pre-tip charge called a “quiet time” surcharge. The diner questioned the server, who said something like, “Management says when it’s not busy, you’re basically getting the place to yourself, so it’s kind of like flying private instead of commercial!”

Would you pay a quiet time surcharge?
