CMPD: Speed a factor in deadly west Charlotte crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The 24-year-old driver of a car involved in a west Charlotte crash has died from his injuries, according to CMPD.

The accident happened Tuesday, September 23rd on Sam Wilson Road near Highway 74.

Upon arrival, officers say they located a severely damaged Hyundai Elantra on the shoulder of the road. The driver, Jaquavias Holley, 24, and two other passengers were located inside the vehicle, according to a news release.

Officers say they also located a Hyundai Tucson with damage to the driver’s side. The driver of the Tucson was reportedly the only person in the vehicle.

MEDIC transported Holley to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Both of his passengers were also taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to CMPD.

Investigators say Holley died on Wednesday, September 24th from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

The preliminary investigation indicates the Hyundai Elantra was traveling at a high rate of speed when the car struck the Hyundai Tucson, according to a news release. CMPD says Holley lost control of the Elantra and the car overturned.

Police say no charges will be filed in the case. Any witnesses to the crash or anyone with information concerning the crash should contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or Charlotte Crime Stoppers.
