LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. (News Release) — James Cory Hunter, 36, and Jessica Elaine Vogel, 42, both of Kershaw, have been charged with Trafficking Fentanyl after an investigation by the Lancaster County Multijurisdictional Narcotics Task Force.

During August and September, Task Force agents made two controlled buys of suspected Fentanyl from Hunter at his home on Gold Mine Highway just outside Kershaw. Arrest warrants were obtained for those sales.

Early last Friday morning, September 26, 2025, Task Force agents, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), and other sheriff’s office investigators went to the home to arrest Hunter and serve a search warrant on the property.

Hunter and Vogel were there and were detained without incident. Another adult male was also in the home but is not implicated in any criminal activity and was not charged.

A search of the home produced 13.4 grams of suspected Fentanyl and suspected Hydrocodone in liquid form along with digital scales.

Hunter was transported to the Lancaster County Detention Center on the warrants for the prior sales. He was also charged with the items located during the search.

He is charged with Distribution of Fentanyl (two counts), Trafficking Fentanyl 4-14 Grams, Possession with Intent to Distribute Hydrocodone, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance in Proximity to a School or Park (Stevens Park) (three counts).

Hunter was denied bond, and he remains in the detention center.

Warrants were obtained for Vogel for the items found during the search, and she was arrested at the home without incident on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

At the time of her arrest, Vogel had suspected Fentanyl in her pants pocket. Vogel is charged with Trafficking Fentanyl 4-14 Grams, Possession with Intent to Distribute Hydrocodone, Possession of Fentanyl, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance in Proximity to a School or Park.

Her bond was also denied, and she remains in jail.

“Task Force agents have been very active lately, and we appreciate information we get from the public that allows them to open investigations on particular people at specific locations,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “Our objective is to shut down these drug houses, put people in jail who are selling drugs, and make these neighborhoods safe and clean for the people living in them. The arrest of Hunter and Vogel was another move in the right direction for the Kershaw area.”

(All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.)
