Community rallies to celebrate retirement of local man after only six people show up to his party
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Proof that the internet can be used for good. 84-year-old Carol Williams of Rock Hill invited people to his retirement party at Ebenezer Presbyterian last week. Six people showed up.
One of the women who was there, Megan Hannon, quickly jumped on her phone and started posting on social media, asking people to rally for Mr. Williams. And rally they did. Within no time, men, women, kids, even some police showed up to celebrate with Mr. Williams, share a meal, and congratulate him on his 64-year career in insurance.
Hannon tells WCCB that Williams’ wife died this year, so he sold his business, Williams Life and Health Insurance. He wants to spend more time with his grandkids and great-grandkids, and also eat as many cheeseburgers as possible. Her post is still getting attention, and people are still sending Mr. Williams cards and retirement gifts.
