Weekend trending wetter, watching developing coastal low

Highs hang around the mid-to-lower 70s across the Piedmont and Foothills this weekend.

Happy Friday! The coldest air we’ve seen since mid-April has settled in across much of the WCCB Charlotte viewing area as lows bottom out in the 30s, 40s, and lower 50s. Highs will struggle to clear the 50s and 60s across the board this Friday afternoon as building clouds and northeasterly breezes keep temperatures 5-10° below normal. Temperatures steadily warm through the weekend, but mostly cloudy skies stick around as a coastal low develops over the coming days.

Heavy rain and gusty winds will pummel North Carolina beaches this weekend; while the vast majority of the moisture remains well east of us, scattered showers and storms may find their way into the Metro and Sandhills. This is a tricky forecast – while areas northwest of the Queen City may stay completely dry, some spots east of I-77 could pick up as much as 1-2″ of rain between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Abundant sunshine returns to start the new workweek ahead as temperatures build near 80° again by Tuesday.
