CMS to implement additional security measures for high-profile football games

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools announced additional security measures at some athletic events, including high-profile football games.

The security measures, put in place are to ensure a safe environment for everyone, will only be implemented for games designated as β€œHigh Profile with Extraordinary Circumstances (HP/E).”

For HP/E games, these are the procedures that may be put in place:

  • No tickets will be allowed for purchase at the game site.Β  Ticket sales will be cut off the day before the event at 2pm.Β
    • This allows for a true estimate of a crowd size and eliminates turning patrons away at the gate in a sell-out.Β Β
  • Ticket Caps. The number of available tickets will be determined in the security planning meeting.Β
  • Additional security personnel or law enforcement
  • Limited entry or exit points
  • Separate concession stands
  • Attendance Limitations. This will be determined during the security planning meeting. Some or all of the following limitations may be enacted:
    • No students from non-competing schools will be granted entry to the game.Β
    • No Senior or employee passes allowed at the gate, only tickets may grant entry
    • No one under the age of 16 (18 optional) allowed entry without an adult.Β

CMS determines HP/E games that may include large crowds, previous incidents at the host’s facility, proximity to non-school-related events, or at the request of the school or law enforcement.

HP/E games will be determined the week of the game by 2 p.m. on Monday.
