Sunny stretch saunters into weekend, chilly start Friday

Some scattered showers and storms may find their way into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area on Sunday, but the severe threat has considerably decreased.

We’ve almost made it to Friday! Wednesday marked three straight days in the 80s for the Queen City, but the latter half of the workweek will be noticeably cooler after a dry cold front bulldozed through the Carolinas late last night. Highs will struggle to reach 75Β° this afternoon around the Metro despite abundant sunshine. Friday morning very well may be the coldest we’ve seen in six months; lows will drop into the 30s and 40s for most spots across the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. Patchy frost is on the table for High Country communities at or above 3500′ as we kick off the final day of the workweek.

Warmer air arrives from the southwest on Saturday as afternoon temperatures once again reach near 80Β° in the Piedmont and Foothills. A robust storm system approaches from the west on Sunday, but the severe threat for the Carolinas has considerably decreased as the Appalachian Mountains blunt its momentum. While widespread rain is in the forecast for the High Country on Sunday, shower and storm chances will be isolated-to-widely-scattered at best for our lower elevations. Although it appears a much-needed soaking isn’t in the forecast for Charlotte, we will see another round of chilly air to ring in the new week after our second cold front in four days. Lows will once again crash into the 30s and 40s as highs only climb near 70Β° through the first two days of the new workweek.
