Gusty showers & storms Sunday, chilly start to workweek

Lows will dip into the 30s and 40s across the board Monday morning.

October’s third weekend is off to a beautiful start, but big changes arrive as we slide into Sunday. A robust wind-and-rainmaking system is making its way across the eastern half of the country, and the Carolinas are its next stop. While the Appalachians will blunt its momentum, a sharp cold front will sweep into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area by Sunday afternoon, bringing gusty showers and storms along with it. Although we won’t be a boatload of rain – most locations see under a quarter-inch – we will see gusty winds approaching 40 mph. A wind-driven Level 1 (out of 5) severe risk has been posted for much of the Metro and northward.

The strong winds will also usher in much colder air behind the front. Lows will dip into the 30s and 40s across the board through the first two mornings of the workweek. Despite the chilly starts, highs will warm nicely into the mid-to-lower 70s on Monday and the mid-to-upper 70s on Tuesday. Another cold front will march through the Carolinas by Tuesday evening, but likely won’t bring much, if any, rain. It will, however, bring another round of cold air in its wake – we’ll have more chilly mornings to wake up to as we round out the workweek ahead.
