Chilly mornings, comfy days ahead

Most locations will be waking up to the 30s and 40s this week.

We’re off to a chilly and dry start this week after Sunday’s storm system as lows dip into the 30s and 40s across the board this Monday morning. While temperatures warm nicely into the mid-to-lower 70s today around the Metro, expect chilly nights to be the norm going forward. Highs will reach the upper 70s on Tuesday before another mainly dry cold front sweeps through the Carolinas overnight into Wednesday; the back half of the week ahead could see lows sinking awfully close to the 30s across the Piedmont and Foothills. Expect the cool, comfy, and dry trend to carry into the weekend, although medium-range models suggest a few showers could reach into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area this coming Sunday.

The tropics aren’t done just yet. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a tropical wave in the Caribbean that has a 70% chance of developing into a named storm by the end of the week. While there’s nothing to be concerned about right now, long-range models agree that this could become a strong hurricane as it approaches Central America this coming weekend into next week. While most guidance keeps this storm away from the mainland U.S., it will be something to watch as we head into the homestretch of October. The next name on the 2025 Atlantic list is Melissa.
