Unsettled weather returns

It’s a great week to be weather wise, as rain chances and chilly temperatures work into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. Before things turn wet I expect a mostly dry Sunday afternoon. Although a breeze from the northeast, and rounds of cloud cover will keep highs in the low to mid 60s for the Piedmont, and mid 50s for the High Country. By overnight Sunday, rain begins to work in from the west.

Scattered showers on Monday will be associated with our first storm system of the week. The core of the system will be near the coast, but will be close enough to provide much needed rainfall to the Queen City. Rain chances will be the highest south of I-85, but it looks like most of us see rain regardless. Thanks to a constant funnel of cold air from the north, Monday will be a chilly and raw day with temperatures stuck in the 50s. The data really begins to diverge after Monday, with some models keeping the storm around, and others pulling the system away. The most likely scenario is showers hang around, but things could trend drier.  Either way, temperatures won’t change much as temperatures are once again stuck in the 50s.

By Wednesday, round two arrives with a new storm system working in from the west. This once again ups rain chances and keeps temperatures in the upper 50s. This system could linger into Thursday, but by Thursday night things look to clear as cool and dry air funnels in.

We are continuing to watch the tropics as Hurricane Melissa rapidly intensifies near Jamaica. This storm will slam the island nation as a major hurricane Monday night, bringing the potential for catastrophic flooding and damaging winds. There will be NO IMPACT from this system in the United States. After Melissa, the tropics look to calm down, and hopefully, we wrap up the 2025 hurricane season!
