Rain and chilly temperatures moving in

Grab the umbrella and jacket for Monday

The final week of October is delivering a spooky forecast with widespread rain and well below average temperatures through early Thursday. Round one of rain is currently to our west over the Tennessee valley. While you may see some rain over the WCCB Charlotte viewing area on radar this evening, most of it isn’t hitting the ground yet. This is thanks to a strong high pressure to our north, funneling in cool and dry air into our region. This dry air is helping to evaporate most of this first batch of rain through this evening. While some rain will fall overnight, the steady rain likely waits to arrive until later in the day Monday. It will be a cold and wet day with highs stuck in the low 50s for most in the Piedmont, upper 40s in the foothills, and low 40s in the High Country! The rain lingers through Tuesday morning, but becomes more isolated through the day. Although highs will once again be stuck in the 40s and 50s across the area.

Although a lull will dominate the end of Tuesday and start of Wednesday, round 2 will be on the way. Another storm system approaches from the west by the second half of Wednesday and, once again looks to bring a cold rain to the Queen City. This round of rain may bring some pretty breezy conditions, adding to the spooky vibes. Luckily it looks to move out during the first half of Thursday, and Halloween is shaping up beautifully with dry air and chilly temperatures! When all is said and done, most of us can expect between 1-3+ inches of rain through Thursday. This is great news as it will help to put a dent in our ongoing drought concerns!

I am continuing to watch the Caribbean as Hurricane Melissa is making a run at category 5 intensity. Unfortunately, the track brings Melissa right into Jamaica on Tuesday morning. The storm will bring life-threatening flooding, landslides, and winds to the island nation. The storm then looks to strike southeastern Cuba and the Bahamas by the middle of the week while maintaining hurricane intensity. Luckily, there will be NO IMPACT FROM Melissa to the United States!
