Wet & chilly stretch continues
Drier times return to the Carolinas just in time for our Halloweekend, but get ready for a major chill to run down your spine.
We’re off to another wet and chilly start this Tuesday morning as scattered showers continue to roll through the Carolinas. While there will be dry stretches at times this afternoon, don’t expect abundant sunshine anytime soon. Today won’t be a complete washout, but shower chances persist throughout the second day of the workweek. Highs will struggle to get above 50° around the Piedmont and Foothills, while the High Country settles into the mid-40s. Another round of widespread rain sweeps into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area by Wednesday afternoon as an expansive storm system slides through the East Coast.
A stray shower or two may linger into your Thursday morning, but mostly sunny skies make a triumphant return by the afternoon. The sunshine will allow for highs in the 50s and 60s across the board, but lows will drop near freezing in the High Country as the Piedmont and Foothills shiver near 40°. Expect another bright and sunny day for your Halloween Friday, but a shiver will run down your spine Friday night as lows in the Queen City dip into the 30s for the first time since mid-April. Your Halloweekend continues the cool and dry trend. Enjoy!
The forecast continues to turn more dire by the minute in Jamaica. Hurricane Melissa has strengthened into one of the most powerful storms to ever form in the Atlantic Basin. As of the Tuesday 2 am update, Melissa is packing winds approaching 175 mph as it closes within 100 miles of the Jamaican coastline. With a central minimum pressure of 901 mb, Melissa is now the eighth-most intense Atlantic hurricane in recorded history, beating out storms like Katrina, Dorian, Irma, and Michael. Landfall is expected in Jamaica by noon today before continuing northeast toward Cuba. While Melissa will not directly impact the Carolinas as it sweeps farther northeast over the open Atlantic later this week, rough surf and higher tides may cause more Outer Banks homes to fall into the ocean.
