Wetness continues Wednesday, dry by Halloween

A chill will run down your spine Halloween night as lows dip into the 20s and 30s across the board.

Happy Hump Day! Rain chances continue this afternoon and evening despite the dry start to our Wednesday as another expansive storm system sweeps into the Carolinas from the west. Widespread rain and cloud cover will keep highs well below average once again today in the 40s and 50s. While no severe weather is in the forecast, some of these showers could be on the heavier side, especially north and west of the Metro.

Much drier air crashes into the Carolinas on Thursday as abundant sunshine returns to the Piedmont and Foothills. Northwesterly flow will lead to more clouds and showers in the High Country throughout the penultimate day of the workweek. Highs will reach into the mid-to-lower 60s in the Queen City on Thursday, but afternoon temperatures may struggle to get much above 40° in the mountains. A few flakes may even fly in elevations above 4000′ Thursday night, though nothing will accumulate. The great pumpkin in the sky returns for all by Halloween Friday afternoon as highs rise into the 50s and 60s across the board, but some of the coldest air we’ve seen in over six months arrives as your little ghouls and goblins go trick-or-treating in the evening. The weekend ahead continues the cool, dry, and sunny trend.

Hurricane Melissa made landfall in southeastern Cuba early this Wednesday morning after ravaging Jamaica as one of the strongest landfalling Atlantic hurricanes in recorded history Tuesday afternoon. Melissa will continue its journey northeastward over the coming days as it steams toward the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, and Bermuda. While Melissa will not impact the Carolinas directly, rough surf and overwash will cause problems for Outer Banks communities over the coming days.
