Isolated severe weather this evening
Weather rollercoaster over the coming days
Buckle up folks, we’ve got quite a busy 72 hours of weather ahead. Starting with tonight, Iβm watching scattered storms, some of which are severe over upstate South Carolina. These will move ENE towards portions of our viewing area this evening. We will need to watch for gusty winds, hail, and an ISOLATED TORNADO THREAT south of I-85. While we don’t have a lot of storm fuel today, there is more than enough spin in the atmosphere to support severe weather. The storms will lose any severe potential after midnight.
By tomorrow the roller coaster hits its peak with highs in the mid 70s in the Piedmont, and low 60s in the High Country. Don’t get used to it, as a strong cold front works through Sunday night. This ushers in the first taste of winter for the entire viewing area. Highs Monday will be stuck in the upper 40s in the Piedmont, and the low 30s in the High Country! On top of that, the NW flow snow machine cranks up in the North Carolina mountains. Typically favored regions could see a couple inches of snow out of this event as snow flies from Sunday night through early Tuesday. This will be a great start to the ski season for the High Country.
There is also a SLIGHT chance that flurries, or even a couple light snow showers could break containment of the Mountains Monday night and work into the Piedmont. While it likely wouldn’t bring any meaningful impacts, it’s something to watch. By Tuesday sun returns across the area, although things remain cold. The rest of the week looks dry, sunny, and we slowly warm back up to average highs!
