Highs rebuild toward record territory, spotty rain chances

Our best chance for rain over the next few days lies between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Happy Friday! We’re tracking scattered showers around the Metro and northward this morning, but most communities will dry out as we head into the afternoon. That said, mostly cloudy skies and a few stray drizzles will stick around throughout the day. Despite the gray conditions, temperatures will rise into the mid-70s – 10-15Β° above normal – in the Queen City for the final day of the workweek. Our best chance for rain over the next few days arrives tonight into Saturday morning as an expansive rainmaking system approaches from the west. Most areas should see some kind of measurable rainfall, but virtually everyone outside of the High Country will remain under a quarter-inch.

A few showers and storms may linger past sunrise Saturday morning, but most locations dry out by noon. We could see one final round of showers and storms in the afternoon as cold front rolls through the Carolinas, but short-range models are unsure about how far south the moisture will reach. The big story on Saturday will be the heat – highs will soar near 80Β° around the Metro and southeastward, which will easily break the all-time daily record for November 22nd. Regardless of what happens through the first half of the weekend, cooler and drier air will filter into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area on Sunday; highs will fall closer to 70Β° across the Piedmont and Foothills as abundant sunshine triumphantly returns.

The drier trend will continue through the first two days of the holiday-shortened workweek ahead, but more rain chances return by Tuesday evening as another storm system sweeps in from the west. Rain chances may linger into our Thanksgiving Eve on Wednesday, but Thanksgiving Day looks dry and sunny with highs near average in the 50s and 60s across the board. A major cooldown likely crashes into the Carolinas by the holiday weekend – something to watch for as you slowly awaken from your turkey coma.
