Suspect smashes car into home after wild chase

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – A South Carolina man is facing several charges after leading police on a brief chase.

The end of that chase was all caught on video. Police say the suspect was in the midst of a crime spree when it came to a crashing end outside of a home.

β€œI got scared and for a moment, my heart stopped,” Peter, one of the homeowners said.

Peter and Inna are thankful their family is okay but are still in shock by what unfolded Wednesday in their quiet neighborhood.

β€œIt all happened so fast,” Inna said. β€œHearing the loud sound that just kept getting louder and louder and then the even louder crash of everything. Immediately knew something near the garage had happened.”

The chase and what was left caught was caught on camera from multiple viewpoints.Β

Spartanburg County deputies say the damage was done when they were trying to stop Michael Waddell. He’d been on the run for more than a day, wanted for at least 15 charges, including assault and battery, burglary, and safe cracking.

His alleged crime spree came to an end when deputies say they forcibly stopped his truck by performing a pit maneuver.

The vehicle then crashed through a fence and slammed into the family’s garage. Waddell was then taken into custody.
