Sunny start to Turkey Week, rain chances lurk ahead

Much colder air rushes in behind Tuesday's system, bringing another taste of winter in time for Thanksgiving.

Temperatures remain above average to kick off Turkey Week, but cooler air has finally arrived after a record-breaking weekend. Highs will rise comfortably into the mid-to-upper 60s across the Piedmont and Foothills as partly-to-mostly sunny skies roll for our first day of the holiday-shortened workweek. The clouds only build further on Tuesday as a rainmaking system approaches from the west, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to the WCCB Charlotte viewing area by the evening. Our best chance for meaningful rainfall lies between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, but most locations will remain below a half-inch.

While we could really use a soaking, the bigger story with this incoming system will be the cold air wrapping in behind it. Highs should manage to crack 70Β° in the Metro on Wednesday, but a chilly Thanksgiving Eve awaits us as lows drop into the 20s and 30s across the board. Get ready for another taste of winter this holiday weekend; highs in the 40s and 50s on Thanksgiving Day will be as warm as it gets through Sunday. Hard freezes return to the Queen City as we wake up Friday and Saturday mornings with lows in the upper 20s. Rain chances remain few and far between through the entire holiday weekend.
