North Mecklenburg project to start next year

CORNELIUS, N.C. –Β Improvements are coming soon to the intersection of W. Catawba Avenue and Torrence Chapel Road/Liverpool Parkway in Cornelius, thanks to a $21 million contract the N.C. Department of Transportation approved last month.

This project will convert the intersection to a reduced conflict intersection design, redirecting left turns from Liverpool Parkway and Torrence Chapel Road to new roundabouts being built to the north and south of Catawba Avenue.

The project also includes adding a roundabout at the Knox Road/Torrence Chapel Road intersection. Knox Road will be realigned to tie in directly to the traffic signal for Catawba Avenue and One Norman Boulevard.

Ohio contractor KWest Group LLC can begin working as soon as Jan. 5, 2026. All work except landscaping and vegetation establishment should be completed in the spring of 2028.
