Messy Friday morning, cloudy & chilly weekend ahead
We'll be hard-pressed to see much sunshine on Saturday and Sunday, but most locations remain dry through the weekend.
Happy Friday! Our final day of the workweek is off to a nasty start as a widespread chilly rain descends across the Piedmont and Foothills. It appears that any brief wintry mix we saw along and north of the I-40 corridor is done for outside of the mountains. Most of the moisture will clear the WCCB Charlotte viewing area to the northeast by the mid-afternoon, leaving us with a chilly – but dry – Friday evening. Dense fog will billow in overnight as lows dip into the 20s and 30s across the board; virtually all of the Piedmont remains above freezing tonight.
The clouds stick around throughout the weekend, but most locations will remain dry through Sunday night. Highs will struggle to clear the 40s across the Piedmont and Foothills as afternoon temperatures sputter near 40Β° in the High Country. Medium-range models are showing a few scattered showers sweeping through the Carolinas on Monday, but they likely won’t add up to much as we kick off the new workweek. The mercury will slowly, but steadily, rise into the mid-50s by Wednesday before another cold front shuts the door on any prolonged warm-up.
