Snow for some on Monday

Festive flakes for some

Snowfall Snapshot Carolinas Manual Gerald 1

The cold and dreary pattern we have been locked into gets one last bid from winter as scattered rain and snow showers work across the area tomorrow morning and afternoon. I’ll start by saying leave the bread and milk at the store as this will be nothing more than a novelty event for everyone outside the High Country. With that said, those along and north of I-40 have a great shot of seeing rain showers switch to snow showers during your Monday morning. Chances are lower to the south, but we could see rain change to a quick burst of snow even in the metro before tapering off during the afternoon.

Along the I-40 corridor we could see some light accumulation on elevated surfaces, and in grassy areas. It’ll be important to keep an eye on surface temperatures as anyone who falls below freezing could see a couple slick spots on the roads. Anyone south of I-40 that is lucky enough to see the flakes won’t see any accumulation, and travel won’t be impacted. The High Country will be the biggest winners as we could see a couple of inches accumulate through Tuesday morning. Temperatures dip well below freezing across the area Tuesday morning, so just be careful of isolated slick spots if you manage to get any accumulation Monday.

Tuesday afternoon stays chilly with highs stuck near 40 in the Piedmont, and upper 30s in the High Country. For those tired of the cold we do see a rebound for your Wednesday and Thursday with highs back in the mid to upper 50s. However don’t get used to it as arctic air arrives by next weekend with well below average temperatures.
