Temperatures tumble Thursday, warming up again into weekend

Enjoy the warmer weekend while it lasts! The coldest air we've seen since January arrives by the start of next week.

Happy Friday Eve! Temperatures will slide a bit this afternoon after Wednesday brought us the warmest air we’ve seen in two weeks. Despite plentiful sunshine, highs will struggle to clear the 30s and 40s across the board this Thursday as northwesterly winds flow into the Carolinas. The sunny skies continue into the final day of the workweek as temperatures return to near-normal values in the mid-50s across the Piedmont and Foothills. The mercury rises near 60Β° in the Queen City on Saturday, but don’t expect the warmth to last long as another sharp cold front cuts into the Carolinas by the end of the weekend.

While Sunday’s front won’t bring much, if any, precipitation to the WCCB Charlotte viewing area, but it will bring bitter cold in its wake. Highs will once again struggle to clear the 40s across the Piedmont and Foothills as we close out the weekend, but that will feel warm compared to what lies ahead of us. Lows likely dip into the teens and single digits across the board as we wake up on Monday – easily the coldest air we’ve seen since last winter. The good news is that the mercury recovers quickly; highs rise near 60Β° again by Wednesday afternoon around the Metro. Outside of a few stray showers on Sunday, rain chances remain few and far between over the next 5-7 days.
