Single digit wind chills overnight
Frigid night ahead
The coldest air of the season so far has arrived as temperatures plummet overnight into the teens in the Piedmont, and single digits in the High Country. When you add in the wind, it will feel as cold as 5° in parts of the Foothills and Piedmont. Wind chills drop to as low as 10° to 15° BELOW ZERO in the High Country. So make sure you’re getting out the door in the morning with adequate attire. Bundle the kids up, and make sure to bring those furry friends inside tonight! Tomorrow afternoon the Piedmont will stay in the 30s with wind chills struggling to get above freezing for most. The High Country watches temperatures top out in the 20s tomorrow.
The good news is this arctic blast will be relatively short lived as much warmer days are ahead! Tuesday remains chilly, but is a big improvement from Monday as highs reach near 50 in the Queen City. The trend continues with temperatures climbing as high as the low to mid 60s on Thursday afternoon. This warm up will be brought on by southerly flow ahead of our next frontal system that arrives sometime Thursday into Friday. This will increase rain chances in that period, but it’s too soon for specifics.
This does look to bring another short lived shot of colder air, however doesn’t look to compete with the severity of our current arctic shot. After that things look mostly dry at this point for next weekend, but there is some noise in the data for rain chances could creep higher by next Sunday. As always the WCCB weather team will keep you Weather Wise with the latest numbers!
