Charlotte’s new Metropolitan Public Transit Authority board holds inaugural meeting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The new board that will oversee Charlotte’s transit system is now officially in place. The 27 members of the Metropolitan Public Transit Authority took the oath of office Thursday night at the Government Center. They will serve four year terms, and will manage a $19 million pot of money that can be used on roads, rails and buses. They will also be responsible for making the light rail and other public transportation safer. The board elected David Howard chair. He’s a former Charlotte City Council member.
