Deputy ejected from vehicle in rollover crash in Rowan County

A Rowan County deputy is recovering after being ejected from his vehicle while responding to a call, according to the sheriff’s office.

Around 10:40 p.m. Thursday, deputies were dispatched to help the China Grove Police Department with an armed suspect on foot.

One of the responding deputies was traveling south on South Main Street when he hydroplaned and lost control of his vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. The vehicle rolled over, hit a utility pole and went into a ditch, causing the deputy to be ejected, officials said.

The deputy was able to walk it off and did not suffer any serious or life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said. He was taken to a local hospital for additional treatment.

No other vehicles were involved. The crash is under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
