Toasty temps through holiday weekend
Highs surge into record territory on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Merry Christmas Eve Eve! Get ready for one of the warmest Christmases on record for the Queen City. Temperatures swell into the mid-60s this Tuesday afternoon across the Piedmont and Foothills as sunshine and southwesterly winds take control of the Carolinas. The mercury rises further into our Christmas Eve, likely surging into record territory around the Metro as highs reach into the mid-70s. The current daily record for December 24th stands at 73Β°; your WCCB weather team is calling for 74Β° as Santa takes to the skies before his big day. Expect more of the same for your Christmas Day as highs likely fall just short of the 77Β° record set back in 1955.
Some moisture may find its way into the High Country on Wednesday and Thursday as a weak cold front sags southward into the Carolinas, but most of the rain remains west of the Continental Divide. That said, a stray shower or two can’t be ruled out on Christmas Day along and north of I-85. Medium-range models suggest clouds build into Friday as a weak, brief Carolina wedge sets up across our area; highs likely remain above normal, but may struggle to clear 60Β° around the Metro. Warmer air returns by the weekend before a sharp cold front brings another cold snap before we ring in 2026.
