A 30+ degree temperature drop tomorrow

Tracking a major temperature drop

Another day and another record high in the Queen City. Charlotte hit 79 today, which shatters the old record of 72 set back in 2021. This is the 3rd day this week that has broken a daily record high including Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Hopefully you were able to get outside and enjoy the record warmth, because reality is about to smack us in the face tomorrow. Expect a 30 degree drop in temperatures for most tomorrow as clouds and scattered drizzle work back into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area.

Another classic β€œCarolina Wedge” sets up as cold air funnels down the spine of the Appalachian chain overnight and into tomorrow. This means Sunday is shaping up to be quite dreary with clouds, some drizzle, and afternoon highs in the mid to upper 40s across the area. So make sure to dress comfortably if you’re going to the Panthers game in uptown, or doing any other outdoor activities!

Overnight Sunday winds shift out of the south as our next storm system approaches from the west. This will lead to isolated Monday morning showers before a cold front crosses in the late morning. Monday afternoon the skies clear and cold, dry air funnels in. This sets up a cold Tuesday with temperatures in the 40s and plenty of sunshine. The good news is the sunshine looks to hold through the calendar change to 2026. As of right now, New Year’s Eve looks seasonable with lows near freezing and mostly clear skies.

Enjoy the final hours of record warmth, and stick with the WCCB weather team for the latest!
