Source: 14-year-old killed in Mooresville park after vape pen deal turns deadly
MOORESVILLE, N.C. – One teenager is dead and another is injured after a shooting in Mooresville over THC vape pens.
Investigators say it happened around 8:30 Monday night at Mazeppa Park. Police say a group of at least nine people ranging from 16 to 20 years old planned to meet up at the park to buy THC or marijuana vape pens. The deal turned into an armed robbery and both sides started shooting.
A teenager was killed in the shootout and another was injured.
Bryan Fernandez Acevedo, Jovany Jiminez, Jonathan Jiminez, Christopher Chacon Ventura, and Christopher Palencia Lazo have been charged as adults with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. One other juvenile has also been charged with the same crimes and will be named after arrest.
Two other adults, Carlos Ezequiel Rodriguez Garcia and Christian Alexis Gutierrez Chavez, are charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
All of the suspects in the case are from Statesville. Mooresville Police have not released the name or age of the teen who was killed in the shooting but a source tells WCCB that he was a 14-year-old.
Mazeppa Park remained closed Tuesday evening.
