About 40 dead, 115 injured in ski resort fire in Switzerland

SWITZERLAND (AP) – The death toll could rise after a fire at a high-end ski resort in the town of Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

Officials say about 40 people are dead and roughly 115 were injured after a fire broke out in a bar during a New Year’s celebration.

Some victims appear to be foreign nationals, but officials say identifying everyone could take days.

It’s unclear if the bar was at capacity, or if the width of a staircase was a factor.

Numerous medical facilities are caring for the injured.
