The Edge: New study says being overly-involved in your young adult child’s life can hinder their career

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Overly-involved parents may hold their kids back professionally. That’s according to a study from North Carolina State University. The study found that young people whose parents were still very closely involved in their lives tended to have occupations with less prestige than young people whose parents were less involved.

According to researchers, parents who are heavily involved with their children – spending lots of time advising them, sharing many activities – actually hinder the child’s ability to launch.
