Gaston County Police find $500K in cash on tractor trailer after traffic violation
The Gaston County Police Department seized over $500,000 in cash from a tractor-trailer during a traffic stop.
“Through strategic coordination and proactive investigations, the Gaston County Police Department remains committed to reducing the prevalence of dangerous drugs and combating criminal activity in our community,” the department stated. “These efforts are part of our mission to foster a safer, more secure environment for all residents of Gaston County.”
Officers conducted the traffic stop on Interstate 85 in Gaston County on Tuesday after the tractor-trailer committed a traffic violation.
Officers interviewed the driver while a K-9 sniffed the trailer and alerted police about the odor of narcotics in the vehicle.
During the search, police said they located the large amount of cash carefully packaged in individual bundles, a method used to conceal large sums of money commonly associated with drug trafficking and money laundering.
