Wet Wednesday, watching for a few snow showers tonight
Don't expect much - if any - accumulation, but some light sleet and snow is possible overnight into early Thursday morning as the moisture clears to the east.
Happy Hump Day! Some much-needed rain sweeps through the Carolinas today as a weak storm system pushes into the Southeast. Most of the rain will be light, but we’ll take what we can get; moderate-to-severe drought persists across the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. The best chances for heavier totals lie south and east of I-85, although most communities will end up with under a quarter-inch of rain. Cold air will wrap around this system as it exits to the east, which could lead to light sleet and snow around the Metro and northward overnight into early Thursday morning, but don’t expect much – if any – accumulation.
Temperatures will dip below freezing as we wake up Thursday morning, which could lead to some refreezing issues on the roadways for your commute. Highs will struggle to clear the 20s and 30s on Thursday before warmer air swells into the Piedmont & Foothills as we close out the workweek. Many locations across the WCCB Charlotte viewing area will see their first 50° day in over two weeks on Friday. Some heavy northwest flow snow is possible in the High Country through Friday afternoon and evening, but the lower elevations will remain dry through the weekend as highs hang around 50° in the Queen City. The warmth only builds into the middle of February – the Metro could see the 60s for the first time in nearly a month on Monday.
