Will Supreme Court’s decision on Trump tariff’s help patients afford their medicines?
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Trump tariffs that the Supreme Court of the US just ruled against have put life-saving medication out of reach for some Americans. Now the big question is, will the Supreme Court’s decision make things easier on patients?
The tariff on imported pharmaceuticals even impacts common drugs like amoxicillin or ibuprofen, because many of the raw ingredients come from China. A local pharmacist tells us that stocking up before the tariffs kicked in wasn’t an option due to budget. And it’s not just the ingredients being taxed; it’s labels and capsules, too. Dr. Martez Prince of Premier Pharmacy and Wellness Center says the tariffs have had a ripple effect. He says, “Seeing that patients decline medications just due to the pricing, not only does it impact the patients health care, but it impacts the pharmacy, of course, as well, because, small businesses rely on sustainability and we rely on that consistency.”
Dr. Prince says the tariffs have impacted how many people he can hire at his pharmacy. He urges patients to ask questions about how they can afford their drugs, and be vocal about their concerns.
