MONROE, N.C. (News Release) — The Monroe Police Department has arrested a Concord man following a vehicle pursuit that began in Monroe and ended in Union County.
At approximately 12:33 p.m., officers were working to locate a stolen van that had been identified by a Flock Safety camera system. The vehicle was spotted in the area of Walmart at 2406 W. Roosevelt Blvd. As officers monitored the situation, the driver circled the area near Showmars before accelerating away onto West Roosevelt Boulevard.
Officers pursued the vehicle as it traveled toward Indian Trail. The pursuit continued into Union County, where personnel with the Union County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
During the incident, stop sticks were successfully deployed. The driver continued attempting to flee, driving through a gate and striking a guardrail before abandoning the vehicle and running from the scene. He was apprehended within seconds without further incident.
The driver was identified as Joshua Lee Orr, 46, of Concord. Orr is wanted as a fugitive from South Carolina and has an outstanding probation violation warrant in North Carolina. He now faces additional charges, including felony flee to elude, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and several traffic violations.
Orr is currently being processed at the Union County Detention Center.
