21-year-old charged with reckless homicide in Rock Hill crash
A 21-year-old man is being charged with reckless homicide following a multi-car collision in Rock Hill on Friday, according to the Rock Hill Police Department.
Around 3:15 p.m., Joel Smith was exiting I-77 southbound at a high rate of speed, police said. His vehicle allegedly went airborne and crossed the median before colliding with a Ford Ranger on Celanese Road. Police said Smith’s vehicle continued out of control and crashed into a Toyota Sienna.
The driver of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police did not say if anyone in the Ford vehicle was injured.
On top of reckless homicide, Smith was also charged with operating an uninsured vehicle.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
