Spring weather returns Sunday
Tracking big temperature swings over the next 7 days
After a dreary couple of days, the sun has finally returned to the Queen City. Sunshine and a warm airmass will lead to a picture-perfect Sunday across the WCCB viewing area. Expect highs to soar into the mid to upper 70s in the Piedmont, and into the lower 60s in the High Country. Unfortunately, this taste of spring will be short-lived as winter returns at the start of next week.
Overnight Sunday winds once again shift out of the NE as cooler air funnels into the region. Clouds will increase, and a weak low pressure is likely to bring the chance for rain and even ice for some. I’m not overly concerned about the ice prospects, however some in the High Country could see a light glaze in the trees on Monday. Right now I’m not overly concerned about travel impacts, but it’s something to keep an eye on as the forecast evolves over the next 36 hours. Outside of the High Country, showers will be possible on Monday, especially north of I-85. Rain or not, Monday will be cloudy with temperatures likely stuck in the 40s for most of us.
The good news is this bout of cold and wet weather doesn’t look to last long. Tuesday will remain chilly, but it will be the start of a trend back to spring-like weather. This is thanks to a heat dome building into the eastern United States helping to bring strong southerly flow into the Carolinas. This means the middle to end of next week will feature well above average temperatures. Highs look to be in the 70s from Wednesday through Friday, and could even flirt with 80 by the end of next week! So don’t let the early week get you down, and hold out for that beautiful weather that follows. Make sure to get outside and enjoy tomorrow, and stick with the WCCB weather team for the latest!
