Truck removed from sinkhole in Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. – Crews are working to repair a large sinkhole that opened in Gastonia.

It happened Saturday morning in the area around Airline Avenue and Brown Street. Police say it happened after the ground apparently caved in.

We’re told no one was hurt. Police said no one was in the truck at the time the sinkhole opened, and that crews were able to remove it.

What caused the sinkhole is under investigation. For now, Brown Street is closed, and drivers are asked to avoid the area until repairs are completed.
