The Edge: Widow wants charges dropped against teens who accidentally ran over her husband
CHARLOTTE, N.C.- A grieving widow in Georgia is speaking out tonight, asking prosecutors not to turn one tragedy into another. Jason Hughes, a beloved high school teacher, was killed when a senior prank at his home spiraled into a deadly accident. Investigators say a group of students showed up to toilet-paper the teacher’s yard. When Hughes came outside, he slipped and fell into the street and into the path of a vehicle; he was accidentally run over by a student’s pickup truck as the teens were leaving. They stayed to render aid. Hughes’s wife, Laura, says her husband loved his students, and she doesn’t want their lives destroyed over what she believes was a terrible accident. She’s asking the prosecutor to drop all charges.
