One dead, two hurt after shooting at North Charlotte party

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte Mecklenburg Police say one person is dead and two others are hurt after a shooting at a party Sunday night. Police say it happened on Hucks Road around 7:30pm.

When police arrived they found one person who had been shot dead behind a home and a group of more than 50 young adults leaving a party.

“Apparently there’s been some kind of party gone wrong if you will,” Major Gene Lim from CMPD said. “It just disturbs and upsets me that there’s that many youth and young adults out here.”

Police say two other people were shot and taken to the hospital where they are expected to recover. CMPD says this is a reminder that parents should know their children’s whereabouts at all times.

“I don’t know if their parents are coming or if there parents even know where they are,” Major Lim said. “But this is the kind of thing that is frustrating from my vantage point. This maybe could have been prevented.”

After the party took a deadly turn, CMPD says groups of young adults stayed near the scene.

“There’sΒ youngΒ adults,Β someΒ lookΒ asΒ youngΒ asΒ highΒ schoolΒ age,Β linedΒ upΒ theΒ streetΒ behindΒ me,Β eitherΒ waitingΒ forΒ theirΒ parentsΒ orΒ waitingΒ toΒ seeΒ howΒ theyΒ canΒ getΒ outΒ ofΒ here,” Major Lim said.

CMPD homicide investigators are working to learn what happened and who pulled the trigger. CMPD has not released any information about the victims or suspects in this case. They are asking anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at 704-432-8477.
