Fire danger increasing
Tracking increasing fire danger
The threat of wild and brush fires is growing across the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. Worsening drought, low humidity, and breezy conditions have prompted fire weather warnings across the region. This threat will last for the next couple of days as ingredients for fire danger remain elevated. If you can avoid any burning, please do so. Also, be mindful of smoking and other activities that could spark a fire!
As for relief from the fire danger, there are signs of increasing rain chances by the middle of this upcoming week. It doesn’t look like a washout, but the chance for scattered showers and storms will rise. This is due to a coastal high pressure pumping warmer and moist air from the south into the region in the 3-7 day range. This will also help to once again bring above average temperatures into the region.
Another story of note is low temperatures tonight, which will approach frost territory in the Piedmont/Foothills, with a hard freeze likely in the High Country. So if you have already started planting, it may not be a bad idea to cover them up! The good news is overnight lows will warm up over the week ahead and frost/freeze potential will once again diminish.
