Area wide burn ban continues

Tracking fire danger relief this week

Carolina wildfire season is here and unfortunately, Mother Nature isn’t playing nice. Dry and breezy conditions continue, helping to trigger statewide burn bans in effect for both Carolinas until further notice. The good news is there are signs of relief this week as a more humid air mass will work in from the south over the coming days. This is thanks to a high pressure positioning itself off the southeast coastline. This will help to pump in warm and muggy air from the gulf into the region by the middle of this week.

This will help to propel temperatures back to the 80s by Tuesday, and stay there through the end of the work week. The fire weather relief comes from the shower and storm chances this late spring like airΒ mass will promote. It doesn’t look like a washout, but afternoon rain chances will be scattered from Wednesday through next weekend. This should help to bring much needed rainfall across the WCCB Charlotte viewing area.

As for planting, we are past the average last freeze in Charlotte, but our average last frost doesn’t occur until April 11th. I don’t see any signs of a hard freeze in the Piedmont through at least April 4th. While it is best to wait until April 15th to play it safe, you can probably get away with planting some of the more hardy plants!
