TSA Agents get partial pay after weeks of working unpaid, some agents still won’t return to work
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After months of working without pay, TSA agents are finally getting some relief. President Trump signed an executive order to pay agents but there are still a lot of questions about what’s next.
TSA agents at CLT say they were partially paid for the last month they missed on Monday. They expect to be caught up by the next paycheck which is in ten days but some agents canβt afford to wait that long.
βNot being paid for, a month, month and a half, that that takes a toll on you mentally, physically and financially. So,you you have to do what you have to do,β Tonia Crocker TSA Agent at CLT said.
President Trump signed an executive order to pay TSA agents while Congress tries to agree on a deal that would allow for more accountability and oversight for ICE.
Passengers have been dealing with long TSA security lines across the country because some workers are calling out or quitting to find more stability.
βHaving to get a second job just because you can’t get your paycheck is not that. I don’t think that’s fair for anybody,β Cece who was traveling through CLT said.
As the spring break travel season picks up, more passengers will hit the skies. Congress is out for a two week break without a funding deal for the Department of Homeland Security.
βWe definitely have to stop taking breaks, these breaks that people government’s taking. I wish we could do that at regular jobs,β Cece traveling through CLT said.
Some TSA agents say they arenβt sure how long the executive order would cover pay. Theyβre already looking ahead to how the next potential funding dispute that could impact their wallets.
βOctober is the end of the fiscal year. You know, budget talks come up again. So, we’re just hoping that it’s not what we call rinse and repeat,β Tonia Crocker said.
CLT ended the program that was donating gift cards to TSA agents. Some agents we spoke to say they would have liked to see the assistance programs stick around until there was a final solution.
