Woman wins $8 million from scratch-off in Union County

MARVIN, N.C. – A Union County woman won $8 million off a $50 scratch-off, North Carolina lottery officials announced Tuesday.

Haya Freitekh, of Waxhaw, bought her winning $8 Million Money Maker ticket at the Publix off Providence Road South in Marvin.

Freitekh went to the lottery headquarters on Tuesday and chose the lump sum prize of $4.8 million. After taxes, she walked away with $3,456,494.

The $8 Million Money Maker game debuted in December 2024 with five $8 million prizes and 10 $100,000 prizes. Lottery officials said one $8 million prize and four $100,000 prizes remain unclaimed.
