CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police arrested a man in connection to a 33-year-old sexual assault cold case in Charlotte.
In the early morning hours of July 9, 1993, a suspect broke into a 79-year-old woman’s home on Benjamin Street in south Charlotte while she was in bed and sexually assaulted her before fleeing.
The case went cold for decades until a DNA profile was obtained from evidence in 2018.
In 2025, a familial DNA match identified a relative connected to the suspect. Detectives reviewed the family history and identified 57-year-old Willie Little as a potential suspect. He was taken into custody on April 16 and interviewed by detectives.
Little was later charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree rape. He remains in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
