Crews are at the scene of a major gas leak in Matthews.
It happened Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Pleasant Plains Road and Morningwood Drive. Officials said the gas line rupture caused an explosion and a fire.
Matthews Fire, Wesley Chapel Fire Department, and the Charlotte Fire Department were all dispatched to the scene.
No injuries have been reported but several nearby homes have been evacuated.

Officials have not said what caused the gas leak. Drivers are asked to avoid the area as crews work to control the leak.
