Applications now being accepted for people who’d like to serve out Mayor Vi Lyles’ term after she steps down

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte City government is now accepting applications from people interested in finishing Vi Lyles’ term as mayor. Last month, Lyles announced she will step down on June 30th, but will stay beyond that if her replacement hasn’t been named. To apply, you must be a registered Democrat who lives in Charlotte and is eligible to vote in City Council elections.

Current Mayor Pro Tem James “Smuggie” Mitchell and former Mayor Jennifer Roberts have both expressed interest in the position.

The application window will close on June 9 at 5 p.m. The new mayor will be selected June 22, and will be sworn in July 1.
