District Attorney says Mint Hill officer was justified in deadly 2025 shooting

MINT HILL, N.C. – A Mint Hill Police officer will not face charges after shooting and killing a suspect last December.

The Mecklenburg County District Attorney found Lieutenant Jacob Smith fired his weapon in self-defense after the suspect, Tjamel Hamlin, shot him and Officer Nicholas Rosario.

It happened during a custody exchange at the Edible Arraignments store on Matthews-Mint Hill Road.
